The trucking industry faces as many challenges as it ever has. New technologies and all the regulations and mandates coming out of Washington - from Hours of Service to CSA to Electronic Logging - are impacting the way you do business. Unstable economic conditions make it difficult to plan for your company's future. We continue to struggle with the shortage of qualified drivers who don't want to work in the industry because of the lifestyle, the stress of increasingly congested highways full of distracted drivers, and the constant scrutiny of government and enforcement. Equipment, employee benefit and other costs continue to increase.

The good news is you don't have to face these challenges alone. In fact, your chances of being successful in this environment are lower if you try to face it alone. That is why you have the Virginia Trucking Association - the only statewide organization in Virginia dedicated solely to helping truck operators and industry suppliers effectively deal with the challenges that lie ahead. In these uncertain times, you can be sure that you can count on the VTA.

When the VTA last met at the Homestead in 2013, the industry faced unstable economic conditions and challenging issues like Hours of Service, CSA, Electronic Logging, the Driver Shortage and congested highways full of distracted drivers. As the old saying goes, "the more things change the more they stay the same." Three years later, trucking is still struggling to address these issues and challenges - plus a few more. In the midst of all these changes, there is only one thing that is certain - no one really worries about looking out for your industry except for your industry associations.

Your association works constantly to effectively represent and protect your interests and help you cope with these many challenges. Attend the 2016 Annual Convention and you will learn how to meet some of these challenges and be prepared to take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead. If you, or your boss, thinks a conference like this isn't worth attending, please consider these benefits of attending:

In-person conferences provide an opportunity for questions and dialogue with speakers and experts that you cannot get online or from reading a magazine or newsletter.

Meeting and networking with your peers and other professionals helps you look at problems from different angles and get ideas to solve those problems.

Meeting new contacts and friends in the industry will give you resources to call on for advice and assistance in the future.

Live conferences provide the right mental and physical environment to help you focus and think strategically. Oftentimes, people learn better through the experiences and examples of others.

In-person conferences give you the ability to learn first-hand about initiatives, strategies and technologies that can help your company's bottom line.

We hope you will invest some of your time and money to attend our 2016 Annual Convention to learn more about the issues your business faces in Virginia and across the country. You will also hear why it is critical for you and your company to commit to helping the VTA grow into a stronger, more effective organization.

We hope you will invest some of your time and money to attend this year's 2016 Annual Convention to learn more about the issues we face and why it is critical for you and your company to commit to helping the VTA grow into a stronger, more effective organization.

We look forward to seeing you at The Homestead!
